Countryside Speakers

A countryside classroom speaker can be organised to visit a class and talk about a particular area of their expertise. Countryside Learning volunteers are always experts in their field and their inside knowledge, experience and practical approach will help pupils to make connections between subjects and make their learning more relevant to the world we live in. Contact the Event Coordinator for more information on how to arrange this.
What the teachers say:
Craig Jones visited the Conservation Club at a school in East Lothian. Here is what their teacher had to say about the visit:“Mr Jones is the Head Keeper on the Horseupcleugh Estate in the Lammermuirs.. Mr Jones explained his role as being somewhat like a farmer of wild livestock who protects his birds and cares for them before they are harvested. He explained carefully how his work is governed by the seasons and the weather and how his work has to be in tune with what is happening outside in the natural world”.Two Primary 4 classes from Comely Bank Primary School in Falkirk recently enjoyed a talk about local wildlife from a visiting speaker. Their class teacher was very positive about the talk, mentioning that “the children were very engaged and the presentation was pitched very well for their age and stage. Both classes wanted to research more about the wildlife in their local area, and there was a great deal of lively discussion afterwards”.
