Tam Tod Trophy
– In Partnership with Lantra Awards
This trophy was founded in 2009 in the memory of Tam Tod, a well-loved gamekeeper, ghillie and lifelong friend to the countryside. Each year it is awarded to an outstanding young learner at Lantra’s ALBAS awards.
Tam Tod had a natural talent, instinct and infinate patience to impart the requisite skills to the young and old alike to fish and shoot. He displayed endless respect not only towards other fishermen but also to the prey, the fish, the loch and other creatures sharing time with nature. Some days chatter would never stop – some it would never start.
Tam was neat, dapper, with a twinkle in his eye and always ready to encourage. He had that easy way with him and a finely tuned sense of humour. He was not impressed with pomposity, didn’t suffer fools, nor was he afraid to speak his mind. He was a family man, adored by his grandchildren who would accompany him around the estate as he unveiled the secrets of the countryside and nature.
An outstanding family man, person and countryman, Tam Tod is commemorated in perpetuity with the award of this annual trophy, named after him, to a young person who has shown commitment to, and improvements in, an area of country sports.
If you know a young learner who should receive this award, nominations usually open in October on Lantra Scotland’s website
