Youth Project
The Youth Advisory Group was developed as a steering panel bringing together young people ranging in age from 15 to 18 years representing the diversity of Scotland’s population. This group worked to advise and report to the Countryside Learning Scotland Trustees and staff on issues relating to: education content, delivering CLS’s initiatives, the future of CLS and engaging with young people.
As part of this, the group formed in 2020 supported with funding from Bell Ingram, identified the need to collaborate and represent the views of young people from across Scotland. Together they devised and distributed an online questionnaire to explore the barriers to young people learning about the countryside and ways to overcome these barriers.
The young people involved benefited by experiencing working with peers and adults in a professional setting while also exploring new social opportunities. CLS welcomed the input from the group to help steer how the charity can develop in the future and actively help young people access opportunities in rural based industries.
The group developed a video based on what they had learned from their questionnaire and working with Countryside Learning Scotland. This was presented by the Youth Advisory Group at the Royal Highland Show, GWCT Game Fair and Perth Show in 2022 hosted on the Bell Ingram stand.
From this work we have developed a new project. You can follow its progress on the Youth Led page.
