Teacher Training

It is important that Scotland’s educators are educated about the rural sector and its opportunities

Our Teacher Training or Career-Long Professional Learning (CLPL) sessions are aimed at teaching, guidance, and careers staff. The sessions explore the opportunities that are available to young people in Scottish rural sectors and businesses.

With a mix of online and in-person sessions, we aim to equip staff with knowledge and resources from all aspects of career opportunities across the rural sectors, looking at the diversity of careers, progression pathways and the future of rural work.

During the sessions, the programme will;

  • Increase your knowledge and confidence enabling you to advise young people on the diverse opportunities which are available in a rural context.
  • Highlight examples and opportunities to engage with rural skills, work placements, apprenticeships and routeways in further education to assist young people in achieveing the careers which interest them.
  • Highlight links to Curriculum for Excellence subjects and wider initiatives like Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), Raising Attainment and STEM
  • Give you a “hands on” taster of a variety of rural careers and meet fellow professionals who facilitate the pathways for young people.

We have just concluded our Spring 2026 online CLPL series. Thankyou for the support from expert industry leaders Jane Campbell Morrison MBE, Alba Wilkinson (Lantra Scotland) and Davy McCracken (SRUC) who gaves fascinating input to the sessions.

As follow up, we are planning several in-person teacher training events across Scotland, to experience rural careers first-hand.
