WHat We Do

Our aim is to improve awareness of and access to the extensive opportunities available within the rural sector to all secondary school children in Scotland.

Countryside Learning Scotland supports this aim by delivering in-school engagement sessions, rural awareness and skills events, work experience placements, mentoring, training for teachers and industry staff, and residential programmes—to demonstrate that rural careers are accessible to everyone, regardless of academic ability or additional support needs.

This work is facilitated through our core initiative, Pathways to Rural Work.

Regional Partnership Delivery

Our initial area of work was in the Tayside area and we successfully piloted the programme in 2017 with Scone estates, Strathmore and Glamis estates and a cluster of primary and secondary schools in the area.  From this we built relationships with other rural businesses and organisations to link with all routes into rural employment.  With the kind assistance of our funders, we are building a network of regional coordinators across Scotland to engage with young people, schools and businesses.

As part of our regional growth plan, we now have Regional Coordinators in Tayside, the Cairngorm area, Dumfries & Galloway and the North West Highlands.
